THE PROGRESS OF YOUNG PEOPLE OF MIGRANT ORIGIN IN AUSTRALIA

This paper examines the socio-economic outcomes for young people of migrant origin in Australia. It follows cohorts of second generation Australians from 1986 to 1996. The study confirms previous analyses which show that these young people have done well relative to their third generation Australian counterparts. The progress of first generation young migrants is also examined. Their outcomes are more mixed and uncertain.
